What it looks like on the wrong side of history

Friday is the 2nd anniversary of the Capitol insurrection. I believe the time we should mark is 12:58pm

Thanks to the exceptional work of the J6 Committee, the felonious mayhem that happened under the urging of a former president is now a historic record.

This is more than TFG deserves. It is also less than he deserves.

He has earned a place in history. Let us be clear his ill-gotten notoriety is not a place of honor. He has yet to get the indictment and punishment he truly deserves.

He will be remembered for inciting an unruly mob to storm our nation’s Capitol.

His mob killed policemen during their criminal rampage.

People died at the hands of a group of self-styled nationalists in support of a false premise that TFG did not lose a democratic and fair election.

In support of the BIG Lie over his Big Loss, TFG asked several marginal groups of thugs to come armed to Washington, D.C.

The loser invited an armed mob to storm the United States Capitol in order to declare him a winner. This is an incredible story.

The purpose of TFG’s BIG Lie and his January 6, 2022 event was to anoint him despite his Big Loss.

But for J6, TFG would be no more notable than Benjamin Harrison or Grover Cleveland. Now he has left a trove of documents in memoriam of 4 years of dysfunction and disruption.

It’s the way TFG wormed his way into the history of the United States of America. If not for this one day, his presidency would have been a blip in the public record.

Thoughts

Did you ever imagine that we’d be saying that the trouble with the American economy was strong growth and high wages?

Perspectives change and the rules we grew to think were steadfast don’t always hold the line. Economics is an evolving science.

And yet those who follow his shenanigans are enthralled. They are so taken by his act that they sanction or endorse racism, misogyny, loatheful speech, his disdain (for them,) lies, narcissism, grift (even when they are the mark.)

His alliance with QAnon, which is not a 12-step program for stupids, may result in the emergence of this century’s party of autocracy. He has embraced it so they will too.

These are troubling signs of the demise of democracy. You should be as worried as I am.

A broken mirror distorts its reflections.

Those boxes the FBI retrieved from the playpen at Mar-a-Lago can now be referred to as #TrumpsIntelligence. Now there is an oxymoron.

A neighbor with whom I needlessly sparred for a long, breath-wasting time told me he’s not really a big fan of TFG. His main complaint he said was the profanity and “some of the things he says.” He likes his policies, though, he told me.

Had I but had the presence of mind to ask which policy? The one that overthrows the government? Or the one that steals national secrets, for the possible benefit of our enemies? Maybe it’s the politics of giving tax breaks to the ultra-rich so working class guys (like my neighbor) carry the burdens of schools, cops, fire fighters, roads and bridges.

America’s origin story

Those of us appalled by those of you taking aim at the Constitution still have hope for American democracy.

Not my art but ain’t it cute?

Those of you fighting to dismantle civil rights, health and welfare have abandoned any faith in its precepts.

Assuming of course you ever cared about the founding principles of the United States of America.

And yes, the Constitution is a flexible document that should keep up with the times. Society can dictate its amendments to the “rules” of the original. It shouldn’t hold back civic progress in the interest of being true to its every nuance.

The Constution, like the Government, is of the people/by the people/for the people. You are not.

Even if the skies look clear, we need to stay vigilant!

CNN alerted me to this and I suggest we all beware of a coming insurrection far more grievous than the January 6th riots:

“Former President Donald Trump teased a 2024 presidential run during a rally in Texas yesterday and said he would consider pardoning those who were charged in connection with the deadly attack on the US Capitol if he wins the White House again.” CNN 5 Things newsletter.

The suggestion of a pardon for the thugs of 1/6 is tantamount to inciting them to pick up arms again.

Seriously. TFG poses a major threat to the United States of America.

He remains both a clown/buffoon and a threat to be taken seriously. DOJ should take him out and make him pay for his crimes

Politics and policy

Wander with me but keep your eye on democracy, a prize worth keeping.

This is a meandering  post but it is heading towards the common good.

The insurrectionist party formerly known as the GOP has taken the banner of a failed man to try to wrestle democracy to the ground. I was going to call it the Tr***ican Party but his head is already very big [and full of rocks from the looks of it.]

This failed man was once a powerful elected official although even that election he won was questionable as were his ethics and business dealings.

In the typical action of a born autocratic, he challenged the results of his next assay into high office; he was not reelected contrary to what his publicists and the January 6th traitors have said.

Vaccines help make us all safe from the extensive spread of Covid-19.

The virus will freely mutate and infect the increasing numbers of us as long as there is a host receptive to it.

The mutations have a biological imperative to survive and multiply. The unvaccinated are their entrée into the general population and their key to this survival.

If we don’t fight it, the virus will dominate. And win!

Denying the results of a nationwide election has become the hallmark of conspiracy theorists and conspirators. These deniers threaten our democracy.

Let’s stay on our toes. We need to be vigilant as there are vigilantes determined to undermine the fabric of American democracy.

Our country was made, like the patchwork quilts so popular on its frontier, of bits and pieces. Diversity is not a 21st century idea. It is the basis on which the USofA is founded.

Do not let it founder under the threat of lawless mobs.

Watching 45 suborning perjury and making false allegations is a refreshing contrast to ..no wait, this is what the #lying-president does and has been doing longer than his 4 year term. Nothing new, and yet still a shock to hear a man sworn to uphold the law and the constitution and the bulwark of our democracy go to such lengths to try to undermine all of these.

45 has always been a fraud; it is part of his persona. He is now committing fraud and more. He has a militia– granted a laughable and overblown group befitting his own image which is overblown and laughable– but men with guns are always a threat. Violent men with guns are that much more of one. He has called them up to act notoriously and lawlessly upon his behalf. He also has a “crew” of blatantly irresponsible GOP senators willing to do his bidding in this attack on our national integrity.

Just before the election, a friend and neighbor who has the bad judgment to support 45 asked me what I found exciting about Joe Biden. I have to admit that, while Ridin’ with Biden is a great slogan, the candidate himself did not excite.

On the other hand, it will be pleasant to live without the ranting tweets, and the treasonous actions of a sitting president. In retrospect, I have to also admit that, as a contrast to the last 4+ years in the #TrumpCentury we have had, it will be more peaceful under Joe/Kamala. America lead by 45 has witnessed one disruption after another and been kept off-balance continuously. Now, no excitement is a goal.

Not letting the next 16 days before we can slip into a more normal America become a flea circus of upheaval and disorder is another goal. AMEN.
